Synopsis (August-October)

DARSHAN: THE EMBRACE (2006)

Darshan, the Embrace is a powerful and moving look at Amma, one of India's most celebrated Mahatmas (spiritual guides). Her fight for peace, and campaigns against poverty and illiteracy earned her the Gandhi King Prize in 2002. (Past recipients include Nelson Mandela and Kofi Annan). Known as the "the hugging saint" for her eager embrace, for the first time Amma has allowed director Jan Kounen to document her passionate journey as she travels across India from Jaipur to Calcutta, changing her country – and our world – one embrace at a time.

CITIZEN KING (2004)

The film explores the last few years of Martin Luther King's life and efforts. Wherein, he attempts to recast himself by embracing causes beyond the civil rights movement – becoming a champion of the poor and an outspoken opponent of the war in Vietnam. Tapping into rich archives, the film brings fresh insights to King's impossible journey, his charismatic leadership and his truly remarkable impact

A FORCE MORE POWERFUL (2000)

A Force More Powerful is a two part documentary series on one of the 20th century’s most important and least –known stories – how non-violent power overcame oppression and authoritarian rule. In South Africa in 1907, Mohandas Gandhi led Indian immigrants in a nonviolent fight for rights denied them by white rulers. The power that Gandhi pioneered has been used by underdogs on every continent and in every decade of the 20th century, to fight for their rights and freedom.

INTO GREAT SILENCE

Into the Great Silence is a very strict, next to silent documentary on monastic life with no music except the chants in the monastery, no interviews and no commentaries and is the first feature to document life inside the confines of the mother house of the Carthusian Order in the French Alps. A film for those who want to embrace awareness, absolute presence and to contemplate the life of men who have devoted themselves to God in the purest form.
