Pray for India

To express his gratitude to the Indian government and the people of India, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, prayed at eight different places of worship in Delhi to mark the 50th anniversary of His exile in India.  This special pilgrimage started with Mahatma Gandhi’s memorial at Rajghat and moved on to a Jain Temple, Sufi shrine, the Judah Hyam Synagogue, Grudwara Rakabganj, the Hindu Laxmi Narayan Temple, a church and the Maha Bodhi Society.
His Holiness was joined by representatives of various religious faiths in the prayer for the “peace and happiness for India and its people” and for hosting the Tibetan leader and his exiled community since March 1959.
This gesture of gratitude and appreciation by His Holiness also celebrated the diversity of India and its long history of inter-faith harmony.
His Holiness very often says that India and its people are the source of Tibet’s rich heritage; they are gurus to the Tibetan people who are their chelas. So “today,” He said, “the Chela will celebrate and pray for the Guru”.
